Resources to Help You Self Publish and Sell More |

Self Publishing - the Sales ChallengeHere at Practical Selling, one of our basic rules is "90:10", so we don't expect you to browse around the whole site. Instead, on this page we summarise the aspects of the site that are most relevant to you if you are involved in - or just thinking about - publishing your own materials as e-books, infoproducts, virtual books. If you do nothing else - please sign up for our periodic E-Zine "90:10" so at least we can be sure you won't miss out on any of the good stuff coming along in the future. Please also be sure to email us and let us know if there are sales-related areas of interest or concern that you think we could help with here. In self publishing, it is essential that a sales approach is applied to each stage - identifying the product you will create, the way you create it, and (most obviously) how you go about selling it. Many people involved in self publishing come to the business because they have a specialist skill or knowledge they want to spread. You may have a great product, nicely presented - and I'm sure you're a lovely person - but if your background isn't in selling, then it may seem like a black art. Worse still, you might think it's all about fast talking and firm handshakes!
Many people think that great products sell themselves, others subscribe to the "if you build it they will come" school of passive marketing - but most self publishers quickly realise that nothing moves off the shelf (virtual or otherwise) if you don't actually sell it. The internet of course has introduced new production opportunities, routes to market and channels of communication to self publishers - but the challenge of actually "selling" remains. It is no more adequate to set up a web site and stand back than it is to put stock and a cash register in your attic and then stand beside them waiting for customers.

Get Targeted Traffic for Your Web SiteIf you are selling your products from a web site - especially on specialised subjects, it's not enough to see lots of page "hits" on your site. But did you know that there are ways to make sure that the people who arrive at your site are qualified and targeted - that is, they are actually interested in what you do !
